How to make your life actually yours

Image
There are some stories that are made to enjoy casually, some that are made to make you feel happy & confident, some make you feel sad and make you cry. But there are some that I feel like are just made to raise questions. And Psycho Pass is definitely one of them.  From the moment you're born, your actions are being monitored, to make sure you don't do something that shouldn't be done. When you grow up, you'll be assessed based on your skills and abilities and you'll be given a job according to your performance. Everyone's mental state and all other things about them will be monitored constantly to prevent any behaviours that can be harmful to others, making the crime rate essentially none. And the system will ensure your safety and you'll be treated immediately if there's something wrong with your physical or mental state. And you just have to live your life doing the job you're given and you can be rest assured that you've lived...

Who doesn't want more Attack on Titan?

After recovering from the mental breakdown caused by AoT: Final Season Part 1, and in the time I was waiting for Part 2, I wanted more AoT content. I watched the Jr. High spinoff, all the OVA's and I was basically ready to swallow anything with AoT in it's name. And then I found this manga, Attack on Titan: Before the Fall. I had pretty low expectations going into this, mostly because I was thinking this is just another attempt at milking AoT, but I was wrong, this actually turned out to be quite an admirable story. In the synopsis, it says it's a prequel to the original AoT following the process of inventing the ODM gear (yeah, that belt thingy that they wear to fly around like spider-man), but in my opinion, it's a story that leads to the development of ODM gear. The first few chapters feel a bit slow but once the story picks up the pace, it's really hard to put it down. It has the dark and spine chilling horror elements like AoT and has good character...

Chainsaw Man is built different

Image
Chainsaw Man is a pretty straightforward battle shounen with a much darker tone than usual. Chainsaw Man does not bring a completely revolutionary way of showing battles or characters to the medium or anything, it is a shonen that follows almost all the shonen rules but slightly twists them enough to make it feel almost like an entirely new thing. It also adds some very well thought out details. Mild note that it's been a while since I've finished this manga, so this is not gonna be a detailed review, but more like an overview thing. If you take all the details away and look at just the outline of the premise, it becomes a bit easier to see. There are devils in the world who kill humans, and devil hunters who kill the devils to protect the humans. That's a pretty typical shounen premise, nothing new, nothing extraordinary. These devils are physical manifestations of human fears, like fear of bats, fear of swords, bombs, and ofcourse chainsaws. Anything can be a ...

This is not about furries (i swear)

Wolf Children Review Sometimes, it doesn't take a lot to be an enjoyable and memorable story. It just needs to know what it's doing and do it the right way. Wolf Children is the type of movie where there's no expansive world building, no jaw dropping action scenes, no breathtaking visuals, not even waifus. But what it does have is a simple story told in a masterful way that keeps you thinking about it for a long time. The part of the movie that amazed me was how the story was told, the story doesn't have anything that's unique and mind-blowing, it's just told in a very linear way, kinda like a story told by your grandma. But it still felt intriguing. The story has just enough to keep you watching, but not too much to make you think too much about it. And now, to my favourite part of the story, the characters, Yuki, the energetic sister and Ame, the quite brother, and how their characters transform by the end of the story. Yuki is hyper active and doe...

"Beautiful", in every sense of the word

Violet Evergarden Anime Review Okay, the reason why I decided to watch Violet Evergarden is the drip. That dress, just look at her dress, I'm a sucker for good looking outfits, and this is just jaw dropping. And as soon as I started watching it, I was hit with some of the best visuals I've ever seen. And I already knew the production value of this thing is no joke. So, I binged the whole series in 2 days. It's got great music, amazing art, some of the scenes just make real life look like 360p, like, seriously, these frames are no joke. The story revolves around the concept of love & writing letters, we follow Violet, who is currently in a job to write letters for other people, and trying to understand what love is. On the surface both of which sound like cheesy topics that only your grandma would be interested in. But the story manages to keep both of them intriguing. The letters aspect of the story helps Violet understand the meaning of love and the side st...

A blast of high-adrenaline mushrooms

Sabikui Bisco Anime Review Before you ask, yes, I too watched it after seeing that one scene from the trailer. (ʘᴗʘ✿) This show is pure madness. No logic, no explanations, if it looks crazy & awesome, it will do it. I tried to find any patterns between the different elements in this world, but I failed miserably. So, it's set in post-apocalyptic Japan, where a "rust" wind is causing a disease that slowly corrodes everything, including people. The story is a quest for a mushroom called "Rust Eater" (Sabikui) that has the power to cure this rust disease. Our main dude's job is to find that mushroom and make the medicine to cure the disease while the government is chasing him to death. There are no limits to what might appear in this show, huge crab that can run faster than most military vehicles - yes, arrows that can shoot exploding mushrooms- yes, cute anime girls- yes. Even with a world so crazy like that, it managed to keep me interested in...
